Okay. So I'm confused with my college major.. and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do.

Currently I am an intended Magazine Journalism major and I'm already nearly finished with my concentration in French. I was thinking that I'd like to, as a magazine journalist, work as a reporter for a teen magazine like Seventeen. It's a well respected magazine for teenage girls that focuses on fashion and pop culture, but it also hits some hard issues like abusive relationships and eating disorders, showing different sides of the story. What draws me to this is the writing, as well as the opportunity to meet interesting people and celebrities.

Whatever I want to do.. I want to be able to work with musicians and other celebrities, where I actually work closely with them. But I'm wondering if magazine journalism is the best way to do that.. I've also considered doing film/television production.

I think that with a magazine journalism major.. I can do a lot of things.. I can blog. I can do PR, I can work for a magazine.. or I can even do the broadcast aspect of it. If I did broadcast.. I would want to do something like E!. Nothing TOO serious.

Can anyone think of some majors that have to do with working in Hollywood?

I mean.. I can always get my bachelors in Magazine Journalism, and then get my master's in something else..

talent management?

is that even a major?

or what business with an emphasis on music?

marketing? (like being a publicist?)?

music promotion is a major.. so i'm sure talent management is one, too.

i was thinking i'd get my bachelors degree in magazine journalism.
then maybe my master's in public relations?

i would LOVE to go on tour with a band and do all their press releases and stuff. run a blog for them..

that sounds really cool.

why dont you try contacting some smaller music labels and see if there is any interest in interns for next summer? JDUB has been putting out a lot of awesome stuff (its where matisyahu got started.... also happens to have a bracha from the lubavitcher rebbe from when it first started up) and they are still small enough that you might be able to do some actually cool stuff instead of just administrative bore.

Thanks! I googled them and on their main page is a blog, so obviously they need writers. I'm gonna see if I can get something with them either in Boston during the school year or for the summer months next year..

If anyone else has any more suggestions, that'd be cool. =]
