Yes. Because making songs about the local grocery store not having your favorite soy ice cream is oh so artistic.

Boo hoo.

I like Emo, the other day i was talking to someone about the O.C. vs. LAWKI (oleay le'sahlom) and how tv is supposed to be about things unlike you; I cam to the conclusion that tv is supposed to transport show you a different world which you might not be able to relate to while music is supposed to be something you can relate to. Thus i like emo.

I have weird taste; my favorite band is Offspring, my 2nd favorite is 3DD, once in a while i listen to Evanescence and Aviril Levine. Right now i'm listening Perfect Circle (which i'm listening to right now) , and next week i'm going to the Opera

peace out

I've decided that all those new supposedly punk bands are all emo beacause they care too much about what they look like (how long u think it takes GC to do their hair? honestly?) and their more emotional than raw and angry.

btw on another note: did u guys hear about how kRock is officially changing into a pop station? Also, i have a friend who is a music manger and he said emo is dieing- in a few years it'll be all, but gone

I liked it better before they changed- there were other stations for that.

WPLJ seems to have done the same thing also- I read an article last summer about how one company own 80% of the radio stations in the country and what affect that has had, guess they weren't too far off.

btw: lately I’ve started listening to DHA- not soo good, but could get worse. <y Discman (which has an intergraded am/fm/tv/wb tuner) is finally dying, and as I was looking for something new I decided no way to ipod- I need something with an FM tuner- maybe that’s not so true anymore

FYI: as of now I want an iRiver- has FM radio, photo view, and voice recorder

There's rarely anything good on the radio.

KROQ has become semi-okay. I was actually a bit surprised about their music selection as of late. For instance, they actually played Echoes by Pink Floyd a couple of nights ago, which was great. The only problem was that they played Boulevard Of Broken Dreams afterwards. Big no no. Complete mood changer.

WDHA is semi-okay. They play too much crap rock like Nickelback and Audioslave though.

WSOU is good on certain days. Sometimes they just play Emo and Nu Metal though.

Q1043 is probably the best, in my opinion. They do a good job.

But I usually like sticking to my CD's.

Never listend to WSOU, if you didn't know it a radio station at a local universty- meanign not too many places get it ( i dont know if it even reaches to NYC)+ it has a variety of shows

104.3 is awsm, because i do love classic rock, but 92.3 used to be like, all metal and hard rock. now it's changing makind the those genres of music more inaccessable.
I went to a massive closed minded jewish school for jr. high and I got out because those types of music really spoke to me and were readily accessable.
I read something in rolling stones a while back about how major radio stations are changing the music they play to appeal to a wider audience.
first of all, if all we listen to is classic rock and bad pop/laton/ hiphop music on the radio, many wont be exposed to good modern music like bright eyes, wilco or bob schneider, we'll choose between bad music and old music. not everyone is willing or has the time to spend on looking for good new bands.metal/ hardrock will suffer if these radio stations shut down just so some fat man (or woman) in a suit gets a bigger paycheck.
so i've decided to BAN 92.3[U] even when they play good music. I dont want their radio station changing, there needs to be good music and many genres of music on the radio or else they will be forgotten by future generations. It's all about keeping the music alive and progressing to find innovative styles.

Since this thread seems to have turned into a running commentary on different music styles, I was just wondering, is anyone into Jewish music at all? And if so, what style?

I personally am into Shalsheles and Lev Tahor, I love their music because I love singing stuff with a meaning that really appeals to me, and it's hard to find something that affects me more than a Pasuk or a really great story (think 'Deaf Man in the Shteeble'), and their stuff is designed to be easy for amateurs to sing. Not that I don't like other kinds of music, I can get into pretty much whatever I hear on the radio, I just like this stuff the most.

I thought i mentioned this before, but i can't seem to find the post: I know a few ppl who manage bands and one of them said that emo is dieing out- it'll be all but gone in a year or two.

Today i stayed home from school and I’m watching videos on FUSE (best channel ever) - some of the summer music (the music which for the most part will be big for the rest of the year) is already out a next to nothing is emo.

Also a couple of other things:

1. I saw the new video by My Chem Romance- it is major goth (looks like something out of Hot Topic), my bet is the band either going to become a sell out or go back underground (one of my teachers knows a member of the bad, i'm gonna ask her what she thinks)

2. I saw a video for "holiday" by Green Day- its the third music video from a song off of american idot. That album was ruined by being over played, now are they going to make the entire album into videos, ruining one song at a time?

3. Two weeks ago i went to a Jimmy Eat World & Taking Back Sunday concert- i dont like Taking Back Sunday much, but i love Jimmy Eat World- the [new] music video for Work is really good (are their two different videos, or am i imagining things?"

jewish music is quite the acquired taste. maybe matisyahu is cool, but onyl b/c of the starkness of his appearance and sound. its a fleeting interest.

back to the original Q- I actually saw/heard "The Format" play a few songs at this concert, i thought they were trying to hard to be screaming, convulsing their bodies , etc. boring.

about krock- its really been sucking lately! its been good rock for the most part, and although they played a lot of the same things, it was the best,. that, and 104.3. plj i guess if theres nothing better. but now krock has got all this weird stuff on it.

and- whats an iriver?

wait a minute, now that i think about it i heard the Format also! They were the pre-band at the Jimmy Eat World concert- they were ok with some of their music, i dont rember exactly, but i remember they had too much verity- they play emo, lound music... and that they were only good at one of them- they should stick to it.

It's like an iPod, only cheaper.

Much cheaper.

Wow, that's really funny, exactly the kind of Jewish music that I don't like :p

(Sorry, I'm not into Israeli (i.e. R-L'Sh) or modern (i.e. Blue Fringe))

Actually, I've never heard of Shotieh Nevuah or Aharon Razel, what's there style?

P.S. Sorry to go so off-topic again.

Here's a letter i just e-mailed them:

Hi,

For years ever since I started listening to music I’ve listened to KRock, heck I’ve gown up on KRock. Now you guys have f***ed up- your just another 9.55 or z100. For years I’ve fought to make sure my Discman or mp3 play had a built FM tuner, because listening to you let me know about new band, albums, news… Now I just looked around for a new MP3 player and decided to screw the FM tuner, you guys are **** anyway. Along with that I just tested out my friend’s XM radio other day and between that, DHA (I don’t like them either, but their better than you guys) I’ll be able to stay on the up and up on whats going out.

Wtvr you guys are sell outs, nice knowing you

Peace out

P.S

The time in January where one of your DJs mocked the Tunami and then mocked me when I called in screaming at him didn’t help my view of you guys either.

Also btw the news Sytem of a Down album is really ... shall we say "odd"

As a musician of 11 years, no, they really aren't talented.

But I guess it's what you're into.
