Hello,
I have been in an online high school for one year. Previously, I was in a regular high school and have always been in a regular school. The time has come for me to decide whether or not to return to a regular high school. My problem is this, I have never done well in the regular school social life. I am quite introverted and truthfully, I do not care about it that much. However, I feel that if I did not go back my mother would be disappointed in me. I do not want to take the easy way out, I just want to be happy. Also, my entire family dislikes that I am in online school and wish for me to return to regular school. They draw from their own happy experiences in school and do not care that I never fit in. I must say that I have had happy experiences in school but, they were few and far in between. I do not wish to regret not going back but, I do not wish to regret going back. I would like some advice, as to what I should do. Cheers!
Sincerely,
Vidaislife

Don't decide something because that's what your parents want. You have to respect their wishes and consider it seriously, but don't give in just because your parents want you to go to a regular school.

You'll always have to deal with people in life (unless you're gonna be like Emily Dickinson and be a hermit your entire life), whether it's in school or a job. You might as well start getting used to dealing with others now to prepare for the future.

You could always try regular school out for a semester or two, and if it's really horrific, you can revert to online schooling again.

Also, you can look at different schools in your area and find one that you like better than the others. You don't have to go to the local public school that you know you'll hate; there are options out there. Look into different schools, especially ones that cater to your interests (e.g. if you're a strong writer, look for schools with good English programs, if you play the flute, look for schools with a strong music program, etc.), where you have a better chance of finding people who share your interests, and have better chances of making more friends.

What is most important here is where you will learn best.

Online school: you get the facts, but let's be honest.. it's probably damn easy to cheat your way through and you might not be getting the material as well as you think. on the other hand.. you also might be in the best learning environment without distractions and you get it better because you can work at your own pace.. however, you also don't get the social learning you need to be a member in a workplace or other social area. in life you'll have to deal with people, and we learn to do that through socialization in school and with friends.

Regular school: in a big school, you can get lost in the shuffle and just be a number, and you lose individual attention that could help you.. on the plus side, you meet people and are forced to work with them, which allows to you be social and adapt to any social situation from learning those skills.

Which one makes more sense for YOU and YOUR needs?
