"What I Hope to Gain From This Internship"

So I'm pursuing a summer internship at my local NOW chapter, and one of the things I have to write about is what I hope to gain from the internship. So...any ideas? The only things I hope to gain is something to put on the resume, something to do with my summer, and something that can get me contacts in the feminist world for after I finish my JD/PhD in women's studies and want to go into workplace discrimination and sexual harassment.

I definitely think you should talk about your passion for the company and their values and how it relates to your career goals. Definitely.

Thesis statement: "I feel that I can both gain from an internship at NOW-NYC and offer the organization many important things."

What's a word to use other than "things"?

The only way to not use things is to be specific. Try wording it like this,

"Not only will I gain x y and z from an internship wth X organization, I will also be an asset. I can offer the organization x y z."

That's pretty much what I've done...it looks good, I think...oh, whatever. I just sent it. Even if they don't want me, I'm hoping I can enslave myself to JOFA or YWTF or even Hadassah or something, I really want a feminist thing for the summer and nothing seems to want me...why doesn't anyone want a high schooler that they can force into coffee runs????...
