Dontknow

in short- most of the day. God is part of my day to day life, even if davening is difficult for me. how often do YOU (J&B) think about God?

i dont have a number, but now that i think about it, quite a bit. unfortunately, usually because i feel like i have done wrong in the face of God but something in me is not really motivating me to actualy change. im just realy cynical/skeptical. plus in many of our classes we get into discussions having to do with God so obviously then; i love those classes.

sadly its probably only during davenning that i actually think about G-d, unless i have aclass in which the subject ocmes up i prob dont think about it as nearly as i should, otherwise i prob wouldnt make as many mistakes religously as i do now.

oh man, that makes me feel even worse, bc i do think about god but honestly i feel so detached and unsure.

i usually think about god when i get depressed... either i get angry at Him or realize He's the only one that can help me.
i get depressed fairly often so i guess God is on my mind most of the day, no matter what the reason

i try to whenever i pray. of course most times i can concentrate for a couple of seconds until i get lost on my thoughts.
i was thinking though that our jewish lives are meant to bring us to think of G-d every other second! whenever we eat we bless him. whenever we wake up we thank him. whenever we do any mitzvah we should think of the One that told us to do so... i can go on and on.
it would be so great if i took these opportunities more seriously... what should i care, i mean, i am doing those things anyway! why wouldn't i have the right thoughts then??? definitely i am wrong.
The good news is that i am aware of that and motivated to improve!!! who knows one day i can say that i think of G-d in every instant of my life... who knows...

well if u include 3 davenings a day and atleats 3 brachot for meals during the day i'd go with 6, which isnt too bad though i suppose that if i was a guy and had tsitsit around me all the time i'd prob be thinking abit more about g-d

I donno, I like to consider myself a frum Jew, but I don't go around specifically or constantly thinking about Hashem. But the fact that I am frum, I where a Kippah and Tzitzis all the time, and daven 3 times a day, isn't that enough that I don't also need to specifically be thinking about Him. Maybe, that just knowing that I have Him around my body and lifestlye is enough, you know?

Well quite often really, because a Jew's whole life evolves round G-d. Like eating, sleeping, waking etc, like you've all already said. I guess it's different for a girl because they have no reminder of G-d throughout the day, like guys do with kippot and tzitzit.

Wow, this whole thing reminds me of something I saw in R' Gifter's intro to shir hashirim, about how Rambam says you're supposed to think about God every second, like a guy who's obsessed with a girl and can't stop thinking about her (yes, that's the example he uses, check it out for yourself, Rambam Hil' Teshuvah 10:3, it's kind of funny to read). Practically, I don't think anyone is really capable of that nowadays, I personally don't think about God that much, except of course for davening, or if I'm making some sort of decision or talking about religious issues with someone, it's kind of sad I guess, how all the ritual (that includes kippa and tzitzit, by the way) is kind of dissociated to a degree from the One Whom they are supposed to remind us of...

Why are you counting, there is no good and bad?

I think about him often, i think- always in the back of my mind, whenever i pause and think about the "big picture", need something, or something isn't going my way i think of Hashem.

i dont wanna show anyone up here but i think about god alot during my everyday. like dozens of times for extended amounts of time, its probably too much. all the thinking i do only gives me more questions, very rarely do i find answers. i wish i could stop thinking about god bc i wanna have stronger faith but the more i think about god the harder it gets to believe in god.

that's quite alrite!
Maimonides figured out the same problem! He wrote a guide for those who are perplexed by thinking too much on what really matters: The Guide For The Perplexed.
The more u try to figure out G-d, the farther u r from him. It's when u realize that He is unknowable that u come the closest.

Do keep thinking about him! All the time!! I wish I could....

Just, just add some factors to the equation. If I may suggest, read veeeery attently and carefuly the first chapters of The Rambam's "Mishne Tora". I'm talking about the very begining. Hilkhot Yesode HaTorah. This should give u the basic base to help u think about G-d without messing with ur faith http://www.thelockers.net/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif.

Hope it helped.

thnx j&b, and i certainly will take a look, but to be honest i prefer to philosophize about god more abstractly, as opposed to the specifics, or solely in relationship to judaism. also, not to refuse help, but i kinda think to a certain degree that if i can come to a conclusion by myself, it will be more meaningful than if i copy the philosophy of others. (disclaimer: im not trying to minimize rambam. he is my all-time favorite rabbi.)
