Hey everyone -
I'm sure your schools give the random drug talk every few months or so. To me, it seems like they do nothing. If you're on drugs they have little effect, because you dont care if its bad for you anymore. If you're not on drugs (like myself) you are bored and all it does is get you annoyed hearing the same thing over and over and over again. If anyone has any input on their effectiveness, and maybe suggestions on how to improve them, I'd be really interested to hear it.

i agree, there really isn't a lot skools can do but tell you not to do it. most people that go to drug rehab bring themselves in.

thats what i thought. I mean, if all drug talks are good for is to miss some class then I think there's something the schools are missing

Random drug tests show lack of trust in the students. This might make students want to push more away and hate heir school even more. Of course if a student is suspected of taking drugs you can set up private meetings...talk with the parents...but random drug tests? that's jkust wrong.

drug talk - like they bring in some poeple to talk about how drugs are bad and messed up their lives and now they went to rehab and are so much better. Random drug tests would be horrible, and thank G-d my school doesnt do that.

I don't like them either. They only tell us stuff we know already, and it's nothing that can't be said in a 30 second commercial. By bringing in an x-druggie they're hoping to make it more "real" and palpable but it doesn't have that affect. I'm not sure why though, it just doesn't. There's a post in the Parent's Corner from someone who says he's a high school administrator and he asks your question BD. Take a look at what I (and other ppl) wrote and let me know what u think.
If they're gonna do something which is imortant enough to miss class for, I wish they would bring in speakers who would talk about something new or different which give us something to think about. Talk about some issue, philosophical, political, whatever, just to pique our interests, give us something to think and talk about, rather than forcing us to listen to the same things over and over again. No one thinks about drugs anymore, it's just "do you or don't you" and most people have an answer.

this is because schools dont care about their students. they do the drug talks to make it seem like they care. when they get students in trouble, they make it seem like they are doing the right thing but its really to make them feel like they have more power. its the same as this. just face it, the adminastrators and most of your teachers dont care about you. at least thats how it is in my school.

you don't know what anybody is really thinking, teachers tell us all the time not to talk in class, some get annoyed, some ignore it, but there are the select few who listen. They say it over and over b/c it's importatn and even if everybody pretends not to care it may be helping some people who wanted to give it a try, or those who were on it and unaware of the side effects.

CptCatz thats not true they care. maybe u dont see it and like i sed in a dif thread maybe they dont show it well but they care. i dont think ppl go into education w/o the ability to care for their students- they all care about us.
As for the drug talks- after a while they get stupid- i dont do drugs so why do i have to keep listening. one teacher suggested that it was for my "life experience"- bad bad bad answer. i dont want to hear about it. ive heard enough.

If they wanna give u a drug talk they should tell you this,
Drugs really isn't that bad (im only talkin about marjiuana) but the time ppl do them is on their free time, and its on your free time that you should be learnin a new skill, or studying something you dont understand in school and try and do better in it, but when you do pot, you kill your brain cells, which just makes you dumber.

Particularly going to Jewish schools, most of us, we have so little time to do out of school things, why waist it on stuff like that? What u said is one of the best and most rational arguments against pot that i've heard in a while. People try to scare us with showing how it hurts, but we all think we're indestructible so why would that make a difference?

How many people do you know that smoke pot regularly (or whatever) actually care whether or not they're killing brain cells and that's "making them dumber"?
