why all this

hey,
i know this isnt exactly on the topic of the perfect school, but it does have to do with the school system and the way they choose certain things. well i go to a school that is extremly into basketball. everyone in school plays, u can allways find people in the gym. the school went to find a very good coach and they really allow him to run the team and decide how and when to have practice. then it comes to hockey. there are a bunch of kids, not very many but a bunch. every yr its the same 15 or 20 kids coming to try out and every yr its a different coach. the team is never able to go practice when they have to time. wether its during the school day or after school. they allways have to be supervised. then every time the team comes back to school all they hear from the students and even some faculty, " hey how badly did u guys loose last night?" never oh did u guys win? the team is constantly put down and never is given a chance to succeced. the kids that play for the team are starting to get fed up with the schools lake of effort to produce, in a sense, or even make and effort to change the schools history in the sport. well i was wondering if any one had any thaughts about if the team should try to push for the school to back them up or if they should just play for the sake of playing for fun? please give some input i'de appreciate it. thanks

Hey, i feel exactly the same way. We lost pretty bad recently and everyone was laughing bout it. I know how you feel because now i realize exactly what you are talking about after games. We have another game soon and if anyone else in this forum feels the same way please respond and say what lures people to hockey and what motivated kids at your schools. Thanks

confront the principal, ask for a better coach, and set practice times. tell him/her that one team shouldnt be favored over another, and that you deserve the same as the basketball team. the point is, confront him.

well the biggreenmystery,
i have talked to the athletic director and the vice principal. the athletic director says that its harder to find a hockey coach thank basketball and the vice principal says speak to the athletic director. the thing is, my schools stuck in this basketball world and they strive to do well in basketball and leave hockey as a side issue some what. the vice prinicpal has even said it to me that he prefers basketball way before hockey. none of the faculty show up to our games but every basketball game that we show up to its packed with teachers and other faculty. the main thing that just over all bothers me rather than the fact about having a new coach every year is that none of them support us in any way. our peers say we dont wanna come cause all you guys do is loose. well were not playing to entertain our friends were there cause we like to play and we want support from them to come and cheer us on not so we can entertain them on a weeknight. our team just wants the school to look at us as equal. well if anyone els has any thing to say give a shout i would appreciate it.

i dunno, then maybe if u win, they will support you, and then youll win more b/c of their support. put up propaganda signs, like "come watch the slaughter of XXX (name of the school ur playing) @ y:yy pm" or wtvr. try ti at least, see what happens

well im one of those kids on the other side. im on the basketball team, im in the gym shooting around whenever i can and i hate hockey. its just a preferance of the majority. obviously more people in your school (which i have a feeling i go to since this sounds VERY familiar) just dont like hockey as much as basketball. if i had the chance to go to a school hockey game, i wouldnt, and i never have. its just not fun and not entertaining. its not your fault. try going to an opera or something, to you it will probably be boring but to other people, its entertaining. if you like playing hockey, then it should just be about you having fun playing hockey and it shouldnt matter who comes to watch.

yah but its always nice to have school support. I have had one volleyball game so far and no fans really came but it was ok - less pressure. maybe its diff for boys and hockey and stuff. Hockey, by the way - is awesome fun and great to watch!!! I think even more than basketball.

why all this
12-16-2003, 09:50 PM
well,
its not about entertaining people its about supporting ur friends. the team doesnt ask people to come so we can entertain u on a weeknight or on a sat. night we want our friends to come so show that they have an intersted in what we do. regardless of if u like it or not if its ur friend playing u should go and support them for what they do. if i had a friend that was singing in an opera i would go see him or her just to show support not to have a good time seeing an opera. its all about being a good friend and showing support, not about entertaining each other. and if u do go to the school that im talking about and if u are on the basketball team then u would know this also. hardly any one comes to any of ur games either. the majority of the 25 or maybe 30 people that come are parents of the players and the other schools fans. there usually about 5 maybe 10 students there. so if the school likes basketball so much why doesnt everyone come and see u guys win? ive been at 2 games for my schools basketball team and each time about half the hockey team showed up to support the team and there were maybe 5 other people there. why doesnt the basketball team show support like we do for them? most of us dont like basketball but we still cheer u guys on. give us back some it would be nice every so often wether or not we win.

ok well its not true cptcatz what u said about my school. i think that we get a good croud for both.and everyone loves to watch the hockey -sometimes our school sets up some times after mishmar where they subsidize supper and provide bussing so ppl can watch the hockey game. now the basketball team is copying them on thursday and doing the same thing.

well so far we have had 3 home games with our last one being just a few days ago and we had a HUGE turnout. the whole bleachers were filled up with parents and LOTS of other students, i mean LOTS. and what i said in my previous post is what i feel. i dont really have too many close friends of mine on the hockey team so thats another reason i dont go. but even last year, i wasnt on the basketball team and i still went to all the home games and even one away game.

This sounds very much like my school. Whoever started this thread, nobody comes to our basketball games either, just the big ones. You were probably only at our only two big games and you saw everybody there. But like the rest of the school, you did not show up to the rest of our games. Remember, at our school, people only show up at big games where we're playing a rival and can win, or if it's the playoffs. People showed up at the hockey games last year in the playoffs, if you win, they will come. But it's too late for that now...

why all this
12-22-2003, 09:53 PM
well cptcatz,
i went to 2 games so far and only one of them had a decent turn out and 20 of those kids were from hockey. the other game that u had a " huge turnout" was because it was a rival game thats the only reason, it has nothing to do with who likes which sport. on an average and even in the past there has only been about 15 or 20 people at the games usually parents of the players or another team that shows up after practice. theres hardly any one that comes specially to see the game. the fact that u may not have friends on the hockey team, fine then u may not feel a reason to show support. that has nothing to do tho with who likes what sport more it has to do with ur own friendships with people in school. also on that note, the majorty of the hockey players show up to as many games possible and ive only seen one of ur players show up to one of our games. if u ask that person then they will say that the game was extremly fun to watch and a very close game. ur teammates even said that ur # one fan is a hockey player. so regardless of the fact if u have friends on the team its about showing support for ur peers and even more important showing support for the other teams in the school. u must know then how it feels to not have fans at a game or 2 so imagin how the hockey team feels showin up game after game without any one there and on top of that loosing. so maybe it would be a nice thing and pay back the hockey team for the things they do for ur team.

but you all know that it is not really like that. It's great to show support to your peers and classmates and all....but sports games are usually huge social scenes, and come on, who wants to go to a game where you dont have friends on the team, and you dont go with a friend or more?

everyone just thinks loser.

Mr. X
12-23-2003, 04:45 PM
and people don't want to go to the sports games if they don't win. who would want to sit in the stands and watch their team lose? its not entertaining. thats why winning = fans usually. thats why at my school we always get crowds in the big games and playoffs. b/c they count and if we win, it feels pretty damn good.

why all this
12-23-2003, 06:06 PM
mr. x ,
i wasnt at ur only big game i didnt go to the rival game cause we had a game that same night. and no one showed up to last yrs varsity playoff game either. it has nothing to do with winning games or not it has to do with who feels like gettin outta bed or convince there friends to come with them to the game. on the same point that i made at the begining of this, wether or not u win should not be ur purpose of showing up to the game. it should be about supporting ur friends. so wether or not the hockey team or basketball team wins games it should be about just showing a little support rather than being entertained. i just think that everyone in the school that im talking about has no idea wat its like and they all make up excuses. then when it comes time for the big games they show up. what about the other games the ones that the players bust there a***s inorder to get to the big games? my point is just the kids all around that dont show up to games need to find the right attitude cause its all wacked out in my opinion.

why all this
12-23-2003, 10:45 PM
its not supposed to be entertaining. were not playing and asking our friends to show up to the games to entertain them. the purpose of having ur friends come is to show they support u. friends should support u for wat u do wether or not they enjoy it. by the fact that they dont show is an example of friends showing a lack of support for each other. if u go to the same school that i do when the basketball teams made it to the playoffs u got maybe 40 or 50 if even that. about 20 or so of those people were parents of either the oppsoing team or of the basketball team. the majority of the student body doesnt give a crap wether or not u win. if they have nothing better to do that night then they will show just so everyone that is on the teams stop bothering them by asking them to come. this discusion really isnt about wether or not the teams are entertaining, it has to do with wether or not theres a lack of friend support at the games.

why all this-we got a pretty good turnout the first home game of the season even with the basketball game going on-i dont know what your talking about

Im pretty sure i go to the same skool as you and i think you are mixing some of the fatcs up, last year at the varsity playoof game i remember bc i was there the gym was packed some people couldnt even find a seat. and also i think that if you want people to come you have to announce home games more so that maybe people will come. and with the whole baskletball thing im on jv and in our past 3 home games we have had great turnouts bc we go to all of our friends and ask them to come and you keep sayin "o ya 20 of the people in the stands are your parents..." well if that is true than i fell you guys should also have somewhat of the same turnout at least.

Mr. X
12-25-2003, 11:45 AM
Yea, I never hear anybody say "hockey game tonight...". You guys gotta make it known that you're having a home game.

i got issues
12-25-2003, 05:07 PM
Mr. X, you are definitely right. I think that Why all this started this after our first and only home game so far. We are starting our home stretch now so we will be announcing our games more often now. Also, if we get enough people there, we will have enough spirit and maybe we could even pull off a few lucky wins and make the playoffs

why all this
12-25-2003, 09:11 PM
we have announced the games before in the past. the playoff game last year hardly any one supporting us showed up because i asked the guys on the team last year. we do have the same 5 or 6 parents that show up to our games every time but this is about having friend support not parental support. our first home game of the season we asked everyone in our grade to come and they all said nah why would we, or , sorry i have something else to do. the same excuses every time. after two years of askin kids to come and hearing the same excuses it kinda gets annoying just to be shut down again. now on the j.v. note yeah everyone comes to your games because varsity usually has a game before you guys so they have to be there then theres the 10 or so of your friends. thats 25 people almost every game at yours. now that we have a the second half of our season lets see if people will show if we do what you all say we should.

Mr. X
12-25-2003, 11:42 PM
but yea, I have also realized that the hockey team is the butt of all our school jokes

(I also love it how we know we're from the same school, this is funny, our school practically runs this board)

why all this
12-26-2003, 10:57 AM
yeah ur right mr. x on that note. for i got issues. yes we've only had one home game so far this season but im talkin about all 5 yrs that ive gone to hockey games in this school and there never has been a crowed like at our first game. after the 1st period the most of our friends went up stairs after the other team scored goals. they all went up to see the basketball game for the rest of the night. i would be very suprised if our friends showed up to the game and cheered us on and very happy. all im saying is that in the past every single game that ive seen there has hardly been any other students at the games and cheering for the team. i would say wen our next game is on this post but then it would give away the school and i dont think were allowed to say names of schools. but for all of u who most probably go to this school that were tlakin about theres a game very shortly after we get back from vacation, at home, so keep ur ears open.

i know this may be skirting on the taboo issue of anonymity, but i almost am jealous of you guys from wherever u go to school. it seems like if i would know that people from my school come here, it would be like a sense of unity and inspiration kind of....i just feel like they never would.

alright i go to this school and i just want to say the reason nobody does anything about your hockey team is because they dont care.....our bball teams are all good....all 4 of them....you have 1 hockey team and you are like 0-5 or something.....you should be happy you have a team....our JV team is 3-1....we won all 3 of our home games and they all had great turnouts......sure 20 of the people in the stands are our parents....even though we get way more than 20 at every game so it doesnt matter.....your parents dont even come to your games because you dont ever win....just be apreciative your hockey team plays

varsity hockey could beat jv basketball in basketball-anyones thoughts?

CptCatz
12-31-2003, 11:17 PM
ok darrel, your going down! we can beat your *** any day! just take us on

why all this
01-02-2004, 12:13 AM
the varsity hockey team would torch jv basketball in basketball any day. half the kids on our hockey team have played basketball either during some yr of high school or in middle school. two of the guys in the junior and senior class were told they had a decent shot at varsity but they chose hockey. jv basketball can talk everythin they want but no one cares about your games either. no one announces them in the morning you guys have to go and request it. for varsity the school makes and effort to find out what happend before hand so they can announce it. the only reason the school says anythin bout your games is because some one on your team goes and complains about it. varsity is what the schools about. jv is all about preparation for varsity no one cares how you do as a team its all about if you can make varsity the next yr. as i stated before, wen i started this topic, the real question is why dont people show up to the hockey games and only somtimes the basketball games? the teams arent there to entertain the rest of the school. the players just want there friends to show support which is different than entertainment. am i the only one that sees a prob wit that? if were entertaining the school maybe we should get paid?
