About Us
TheLockers.net was started by Rabbi Shu Eliovson and a few friends who swore they’d never forget what yeshiva high-school had been like, and that one day, when they could, they’d do something to change things for the better.
As we saw young friends of ours in Yeshiva today getting in trouble (or even expelled) for breaking religious rules that meant nothing to them, feeling little from the davening experience, having major questions about God and Halacha, and sometimes living a social lifestyle on the weekend of parties and hooking up and smoking up and all that stuff – we realized that there was nowhere to go to talk about the most important things that Yeshiva teens are thinking about today.
So Rabbi Shu and his crew went on a spiritual safari across the USA and spoke with over 1,000 yeshiva teens about creating a solution, and thus TheLockers.net was born. A place where yeshiva teens can say what they believe in, and challenge the things they don’t.
The guidelines of The Lockers community have been shaped by its members – to create an environment that is authentic and real without any BS.
The Lockers has no agenda. It is not here to convince anyone to be observant, or to love Israel, or to daven every day. We will never tell you whether or not you should touch someone of the opposite sex, or whether or not its cool to party. Not because we don’t believe in observant Judaism (we do), but rather because we realize that you can’t ever love anything by force.
People have to decide for themselves what they believe. And to do that, we each need a place where we can speak freely, and say the things we really think without fear of getting punished or treated differently for it.
Real Truth can not be afraid of any question. And a presentation of religion that limits the boundaries of discussion only creates a suspicion that the Source, God forbid, might not be True.
And so we come to TheLockers.net community for yeshiva teens. Because when you have a place to say what you really believe in, and what you really don’t buy into at all, you start to discover that there is a lot of Truth out there after all. And most important, you discover that it’s yours.
